It is also planned to supplement conventional text material in engineering drawing. It assumes no previous freehand drawing training, but it does require a knowledge of projection principles.
The foremost teachers of engineering drawing agree that the importance of technical sketching to engineers cannot be overestimated and that their training in orthographic drawing goes a long way toward preparing them for freehand sketching.
Practical technical sketching is extremely important in industry. Indeed, in many engineering departments and companies the ability to execute freehand sketches is a requirement. In general little academic consideration is given to this subject. Usually the surface of the subject is just scratched in college courses, and it is assumed that students will develop skill in technical sketching as needed.
