Synopsis: From the jacket: When he was murdered in 1967 at the age of 34, playwright Joe Orton -author of Loot, Entertaining Mr. Sloane, What the Butler Saw, and other acclaimed dramas-left behind several novels. Now published in America for the first time, Head to Toe is written with all the needle-sharp wit and brisk pace of Orton's plays.
Head to Toe is like a modernized Alice in Wonderland-but for adults. The hero, Gombold, strays onto the head of a creature some hundred miles high and begins a strenuous and eventful journey southward through the giant's nether regions and on toward his toes.
En route, Gombold falls into the clutches of Connie, a dominating and gender-bending policewoman; finds himself in an assassination squad whose target is the (female) Prime Minister; is incarcerated with the Monte Cristo-like Doktor von Pregnant; and finally enlists in an apocalyptic war between the Left and Right Buttocks.
Proceeding with the fantastic but implacable logic of a dream, peopled by comic and dangerous grotesques, and primed with the twin charges of satire and eroticism, Head to Toe is a tour-de-force from a brilliant writer.
